Obituary of Evelyn V. (nee Manning) Skalski
Skalski, Evelyn V, (nee Manning), age 88 of Depew, NY, peacefully went home to the Lord, on May 15, 2023. Born September 7, 1934, in Fredericton Junction, New Brunswick, Canada to the late John and Jessie (Hall) Manning. Beloved wife of 66 years to Frank A. Skalski. Cherished mother of Ann Marie, Sharon (Craig) Thompson, John (Janna), late Tim, Tom (Karen), Mary (Darrell) Hess, Pam, and Linda (Bernard) Shaughnessy. Adored “Nana” of Jennifer, Shawn (Briana), Jason, Tyler, Marisa, Bridget, Megan, John, Dane, Cannon and Ryan. Loving great-grandmother to Harlow. Sister to late Alice (late Ambrose) Wosley, late Wesley Manning, late Jacqueline (late John) Butler, late John Manning and James (Lorna) Manning. Survived also by many nieces and nephews. Evelyn was a devout Catholic and led a life of service and selflessness. She dedicated 43 years of loving service at St. Mary’s High School in Lancaster and was made an Honorary Alumna of St. Mary’s Alumni Association. Throughout her accomplished life she was President of Erie County Food Service Organization, received the Silver Medal Award from the International Food Service Executives Association and was a member of the Marion Chapter of the National Honor Society of Secondary Schools. She was a faithful and active member in her parish ministries at St. James (currently St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta) where she served as Eucharistic Minister, Lector, RCIA leader and Ladies Sodality volunteer. Due to her lifelong service, she was recognized and honored with The Jesus – Faithful Service Award by the Diocese of Buffalo in appreciation for 40 years of volunteer service in catechetical ministry. Evelyn was so loved by her family and friends and we will cherish her in our hearts forever. Visitation at Cichon-Borgosz Funeral Home, Inc., 4929 Broadway, Depew, NY on Sunday, May 21 from 12-4 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mother Teresa Calcutta Parish at St. James Church 496 Terrace Blvd, Depew, NY on Monday, May 22 at 11:30 AM. Interment to follow at St. Augustine Cemetery, 25 Cemetery Rd, Lancaster, NY. Flowers gratefully declined.
