Obituary of Shirley B. (nee Schroeder) Christ

Shirley Christ was a devoted member and servant at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Depew. As a pianist and singer, she was actively involved in music ministry, a legacy she passed on to her children. In addition to leading the Junior Choir for many years, Shirley sang in the Senior Choir for decades, as well as the Lutheran Chorale and the Cheektowaga Chorus. She belonged to many Bible study groups, and was a member of the LWML organization. She especially enjoyed camping trips to Camp Pioneer on Lake Erie. Shirley’s early years were centered on raising her children. She also worked in the West Seneca School system for a number of years. After retiring, Shirley and Ron moved from Cheektowaga to Springhill, Florida where they lived for 10 years. Shirley eagerly joined new singing groups, a new church and formed a new circle of friends. After returning to Lancaster, Shirley volunteered at Greenfields Senior Living, playing the piano for the residents. She became a resident in 2016 and lived in Greenfield Manor, the Court and finally the Terrace Memory Care Unit. She truly loved the activities, clubs, field trips, celebrations and new friendships that Greenfields offered. Shirley will be greatly missed by her children grandkids, her church family, her Greenfields family and her lifelong friend Pat Honsberger, as well as the only remaining member of a 50-year card club, Lois Fey. Shirley went home to be with her Lord at age 89 on January 25, 2022. Beloved wife of the late Ronald Christ; devoted mother of Mark (late Teresa) Christ and Beth Lasky; loving grandmother of Nicholas (Megan) Beardi, Andrew Christ, Ryan Christ, Jonathan Lasky and Katherine Lasky; Cherished great grandmother of Luciana and Dominic.
