Ron was always there. We moved to Lancaster so my father could be the rector of Trinity, Lancaster, and Ron and Elaine were devoted and devout members of the parish. They occupied, in their later years, the front pew at the 8 o'clock service every Sunday, and Ron was a vestry member for years. He was one of the finest people I have ever known. After retiring, he and Elaine served brunches for the families and friends of parishioners who had died, and patiently waited until after the last person left. "Now's the healing time", he said once, when I was getting impatient with lingerers. "Let 'em stay." I'll always remember that. It was one of those lessons that he taught me. There were many: showing us a long and loving marriage, aging gracefully, standing up for what was right, no matter how many eye-rolls you got, and working on projects that saved the church money by him and his son working on them. He was an ace at problem-solving.
We are all sad in the parish. I will miss him forever, because that's how long his wonderful presence was in my life. Rest, Ron.
Love,
Becky Arcese
