Joyce E. (nee Lange) Souter Obituary

Joyce E. Souter passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and the memories of a life well lived. She was born in Arcade, New York, on May 10, 1936, to the late Esther (nee VanVolkenberg) and Harry Lange.

Joyce lived a life centered on the things that mattered most to her—family, love, and the simple joys of everyday life. She worked as an assembler at Scott Aviation in Lancaster, where she was known as a dependable and hardworking employee. While she took pride in her work, her greatest accomplishments were found at home, where she devoted herself to raising her family and caring for those she loved.

A quiet and gentle soul, Joyce found comfort in reading. She could often be found with a good book in hand, enjoying a few peaceful moments and escaping into the stories she loved. She appreciated life's simple pleasures and never needed much to make her happy—time spent with family, a conversation with a friend, or a good book was often enough.

Joyce's greatest joy was being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Her family was her pride and purpose. She celebrated their successes, offered comfort during difficult times, and provided the steady love and support that only a mother and grandmother can give. Through the years, her family grew to span generations, and she cherished each and every one of them.

She was the beloved wife of the late Paul Souter; devoted mother of Cheryl (the late Al) Wisniewski, Linda Settelberg, late Michael Reiter,  Joseph (late Terri) Reiter, Debbie (late Jerry) Haire, James (Sharon) Reiter, and Timothy Reiter. She was the loving grandmother of many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Joyce was also the dear sister of her brother and sisters and is survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Joyce will be remembered for her quiet strength, her loving heart, and the unwavering devotion she showed to her family throughout her life. Her legacy is not found in grand accomplishments, but in the countless lives she touched through her kindness, her patience, and her unconditional love. The lessons she taught, the memories she created, and the love she shared will remain in the hearts of her family forever.

A Celebration of Joyce's Life is being planned and will be announced at a later date.
