Sharon A. (nee Mapes) Hodur Obituary

Sharon A. Hodur of Depew passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Buffalo, NY on September 13, 1942, she was the beloved daughter of the late Dolores (nee Bergum) and Roy E. Mapes. On June 9, 1962, at St. James Church in Depew, Sharon married the love of her life, Melvin J. Hodur. Together they built a life centered around love, family, laughter, and countless cherished memories until Melvin’s passing.

Sharon was a loving and devoted mother to Pamela (Bertram) LaBell and Michele (the late James) Hemingway. Her greatest joy in life was being “Grandma” and “Great-Grandma” to Ryan (Amanda) LaBell, Stephanie (Kristofer) O’Connor, Katelyn (Matthew) Krumm, Kayla Hemingway, and her adored great-grandchildren Skylar, Shayleigh, Charlotte, Cameron, and Baby Krumm who is on the way. Nothing made Sharon happier than being surrounded by her family, whether sharing stories, celebrating holidays, or simply enjoying time together. Her love for them was endless and unconditional.

She is survived by her sisters Sandra (the late Wilbert Jr.) Aldrich and Susan (Sal) Nobile and was predeceased by her sister Janice (Edward) Taton. Sharon also leaves behind her dear and devoted friend David Sobolewski, along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and treasured friends.

Sharon had a vibrant spirit and a sparkle about her that people were naturally drawn to. She loved fashion, shopping, dancing, and always enjoyed looking her best. Whether dressed for a night out or simply spending time with family, Sharon carried herself with elegance and confidence. She spent many years as a beautician at Maxim’s in Cheektowaga, helping others feel beautiful both inside and out, before later working as a sales associate at Macy’s Department Store, where her warm smile and friendly personality made lasting friendships.

A proud member of the F.O.E. Aerie #2692 Ladies Auxiliary and the Depew Polish Falcons, Sharon loved being social and staying connected with friends and her community. She enjoyed laughter, conversation, music, and dancing, and had a way of making people feel welcomed and comfortable wherever she went.

Above all, Sharon will be remembered for her loving heart, her strength, her sense of style, and the special way she cared for the people she loved. Her family meant everything to her, and the memories she created with them will be treasured forever.
