Obituary of James A. Nowinski

James A. “Jim” Nowinski, Of Depew, passed away on January 31, 2026. He was 68.

Jim was born on June 13, 1957, in Buffalo, NY, to the late Beverly (née Brew) and Edward Nowinski. A devoted and loving husband, Jim married the love of his life, Carol (née Boller) Nowinski, on November 13, 1994, and they shared many years of companionship, laughter, and unwavering support.

Jim was the devoted father of the late Bryan Mortellaro and the late Jeremy Mortellaro, whom he loved deeply and carried in his heart always.

He was a dear brother to Vicky (Jim) Coyle, Lori Smith, and Jill (Gus) Voss, and the late Michael Nowinski. Jim was also cherished by many extended family members, friends, and fellow racing enthusiasts who will miss him greatly.

An avid stock car racer, Jim’s passion for racing was a defining part of his life. He was a familiar and respected presence at Lancaster Speedway, where he spent countless hours doing what he loved most. Jim was also a proud board member of the FOAR SCORE Club, remaining actively involved in the racing community that meant so much to him.

A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held this summer, with details to be announced. His family invites all who knew and loved Jim to gather and honor his life, his passions, and the memories he leaves behind.
