Obituary of Richard J. Vorwerk

Richard of Lancaster, NY, passed peacefully on January 10, 2026. Born in Buffalo on August 13, 1944, to  the late Marie (nee Hochworter).and John Vorwerk.

Richard shared over 60 years of marriage with the love of his life, Elaine (nee Borczynski) Vorwerk. They were married on July 3, 1965, at St. Bartholomew Church in Buffalo, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love, devotion, and family. Richard was a proud and devoted father to Rick (Renee Braun) Vorwerk and Marie (Phil) Fleck, and he took great joy in all their accomplishments.

Nothing meant more to Richard than his family. He was a loving and involved grandfather to Richard Vorwerk III, Dr. Amanda (Matthew) Schwandt, Phillip (Samantha) Fleck Jr., Benjamin Fleck, Nathaniel Vorwerk, Joshua Fleck, Jacob Fleck, Sara Wojewoda, Brandon Braun and a cherished great-grandfather to Vivian, Hudson, Oliver, and Justin. He especially treasured time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating memories that will be held close forever.

Richard was a dear brother to Robert (late Terry) Vorwerk and Susan Kalisz (late Tony), and the late Raymond Vorwerk, and a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews who will fondly remember his kindness and steady presence.

Well known throughout the community, Richard was the former owner of the Transit Inn, where he built not just a business, but friendships that lasted a lifetime. He was known for his strong work ethic, sarcastic welcoming nature, and the genuine way he treated everyone who walked through the door.

Above all, Richard will be remembered as a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, and a man who valued family, hard work, and loyalty. He leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue through the generations.
