Obituary of Arthur J. Domino
Lifelong Depew resident Arthur J. Domino wore many hats in his lifetime—from the typical roles of a devoted family man and friend to his very public roles in service to his community. Art joined the volunteer fire service as a young man, rising through the ranks to serve as Chief of the Depew Fire Department from 1980-1982. This led him to take on additional leadership roles in numerous statewide organizations and committees. His public service expanded beyond the fire serve as, following in the footsteps of his father, he was elected to the position of Mayor of Depew—a position he held from 1983-1993. During this time, Art also continued working in the emergency services field for the county, eventually serving in the role of Commissioner of Erie County Department of Emergency Services, retiring in 1998. In his retirement he would serve as the Historian for the Village of Depew as well as co-author of a book on its history. He also served as one of the incorporating officers for the Greater Lancaster Fire Prevention and Safety Organization that established a firefighting museum in the Village of Lancaster. He could frequently be found there sharing his knowledge and love for the fire service with those who stopped in.
